COLUMBIA, S.C. — Friday and Saturday will be comfortable in the Midlands with high temperatures near average in the low 60s. Mostly sunny skies will stay for the next several days, but some changes are on the way as the next weather system approaches.

A strong cold front will move across the area, ushering some arctic air into the Midlands at the start of next week. The National Weather Service has issued an extreme cold watch for most of the Midlands beginning 10 p.m. Sunday and lasting until Monday 10 a.m. Dress in layers if you go outside. To prevent water pipes from freezing, allow them to drip slowly.
