NEWAYGO COUNTY, MI – The Hesperia Community Schools district today announced a third-grade student and their parent died in a car crash.

Superintendent Bryan Mey announced the news via press release on social media on Dec. 10.

“We want to ensure that every student, parent, guardian, and staff member has the support they need,” Mey said in a statement.

The school district has initiated its crisis response team and contacted community partners for supportive measures and counseling.

Mey also asked families to speak with their students to help them prepare for the emotions they may experience.
