Actress Wenne Alton Davis was killed after being struck by a car in Midtown Manhattan.
The 60-year-old Davis was crossing Broadway near West 53rd Street just before 9 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, when a Cadillac XT6 SUV made a left turn and hit her, according to the New York Daily News.
The news of Davis’ death has left many in the local theater and television community shocked and saddened.
The driver, 61, remained at the scene, and Davis’ friend told the Daily News that they had the right of way at the time of the crash, the outlet said.
Emergency responders found Davis with severe head and body injuries. She was rushed to Mount Sinai Hospital, where she died that night.
Police have not filed charges, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Wenne Alton Davis, who was born Wendy Davis, lived in Forest Hills, Queens, and was in Manhattan for dinner plans when the accident happened, the Daily News said.
Davis was best known for a recent appearance as a police officer in a 2023 episode of the final season of "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," alongside Rachel Brosnahan. Their other TV credits included roles in "Girls5eva," "New Amsterdam," "Blindspot," "American Odyssey," and "Rescue Me."
Friends and neighbors described Davis as a vibrant and kind person who brought energy and warmth to every role and interaction.
No arrests or charges have been made as of Wednesday, Dec. 10. The investigation by NYPD is ongoing.
