A Connecticut man is facing serious charges after police say he stalked a victim in East Lyme for months and confronted him outside his home.
Macgregor Smith, 48, of Niantic, was charged on Tuesday, Dec. 9, with stalking, threatening, breach of peace, and illegal possession of a weapon in a motor vehicle, East Lyme police said.
Police were called to a Fairhaven Road home on Tuesday around 8:30 a.m. after a suspect, later identified as Smith, had parked outside, waiting to confront a man inside. The caller told officers Smith had yelled at him and made threatening statements, East Lyme authorities said.
“Officers located the suspect and determined he had been stalking the victim for months,” East Lyme police said in their report. “He waited outside of the victim’s residence, hoping to contact him.”
Police said Smith had a wooden baton in his vehicle. They also noted that Smith and the alleged victim do not know one another. It's unclear why this happened.
Smith was held on a $100,000 bond, authorities said.
