BIG TIMBER — Cars crushed, trees toppled, roofs ripped askew — all the result of wind gusts approaching 100 mph that tore through Big Timber during Tuesday’s Wind-mageddon, leaving parts of town without power in one of the most destructive events a community accustomed to brisk winds has seen in years.
The National Weather Service recorded a peak 97 mph gust at Howard Field Airport 5:15 a.m. on Tuesday amid sustained winds of 76 mph. Comparatively, Livingston had a peak gust of 82 mph recorded at the city’s Mission Field Airport station.
The Livingston measurement is shy of the city’s official record 94 mph gust at the site from in December 1978, according to meteorologist Tessa Stetzer.
