WAYNE COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - One person is in the hospital after a shooting in Wayne County.

The Jesup Police Department says they responded to a report of a shooting at the Briarwood Apartments Wednesday.

Upon arrival officers say they located a person with a gunshot wound to the torso in the breezeway of the C building.

Officers rendered aid immediately and the victim was taken to a hospital in Wayne County before being airlifted to a hospital in Savannah for more advanced treatment.

The scene was secured and surveillance was reviewed. Authorities say that footage helped them identify people in the vicinity of the shooting.

The investigation remains active, and detectives say they are following up on leads.
