In a volatile trade, the domestic equity markets on Thursday snapped the three-day losing streak, as global sentiment strengthened overnight after the US Fed delivered a 25-bps rate cut to 3.50%-3.75%. The BSE Sensex jumped 426.86 points to close at 84,818.13, while the NSE Nifty rose by 140.55 points to near 25,900 to settle at 25,898.55.

The domestic markets turned red immediately after opening, before staging a smart recovery. However, the market again fell and turned red, with the Nifty trading at the day’s high of 25,803, as of 9:30 am. Soon after, the Nifty reversed the trend and touched its day’s high of 25,922.80.

In the broader market, the BSE Midcap traded higher by 0.79 per cent. However, the BSE Smallcap index rose 0.51%.
