Police chiefs were forced to set up a " critical incident " response after problems emerged with a new state of the art 999 call handling system. ‌

In the first few days of the launch on November 25 there were major delays with answering emergency calls from the public. ‌

It's claimed calls which would normally be answered in under ten seconds were taking up to 50 seconds to get a response. ‌

While 101 non emergency calls which would normally be answered in around four minutes were taking up to 40 minutes for a response, though wait times later reduced to 16 minutes and less.

The glitches affected call handling centres in Glasgow, Motherwell, Bilston Glen near Edinburgh, Dundee and Inverness.
