BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont police will launch their annual Blue Santa Send Off Wednesday, delivering toys to families across the city as part of a decades-old holiday tradition.
The Blue Santa program began more than 30 years ago when a handful of officers purchased toys out of their own pockets to help children in need, according to program information shared by Beaumont police. Since then, the effort has significantly expanded thanks to community partners and local organizations.
Unlike traditional toy-drive formats, Beaumont’s program does not allow families to sign up themselves. Instead, officers nominate families they meet throughout the year who may be struggling or in need of extra support.
