FRANKFORT, Ky. —

A community is mourning after a deadly shooting at Kentucky State University on Tuesday left one student dead and another critically injured.

The gunfire erupted near Young Hall. RJ Anthony Jr., a KSU student, says he was in his room studying when shots were fired.

“I didn't hear the actual shots go off, but I just heard a lot of commotion outside,” said Anthony, “I heard like police sirens and helicopters.”

Authorities say two students were shot. One was sent to the hospital in critical condition. The other, 19-year-old De’Jon Fox Jr., was killed. Anthony says he knew Fox and remembers him as a kind presence on campus.
