A sergeant at West Midlands Police has been charged with rape, the force has said. Sgt Karl Mumby is set to face a crown court later this month after being charged with two counts of rape and one of coercive control.

The alleged crimes were reported to the police force in November 2023 and the 47-year-old has been suspended on ‘full pay’ since then.

It is believed to be common practice during investigations to suspend officers on full pay until either they are convicted of an offence or their innocence is confirmed.

Mumby is due to appear at Warwick Crown Court next week, Wednesday, December 17, for a plea and trial preparation hearing, BirminghamLive reports.
