A West Midlands Police sergeant will be brought before a crown court this month on suspicion of rape, the force has confirmed.

Sgt Karl Mumby was charged with two offences of raping a woman and one of coercive control.

The 47-year-old has been suspended from his duties on 'full pay' since the alleged crimes were reported to the police force in November 2023.

The news can now be revealed today, Wednesday, December 10 after police confirmation.

It is understood to be common practice to suspend officers on full pay during investigations until a conviction is secured or their innocence is confirmed.

Mumby will appear at Warwick Crown Court for a plea and trial preparation hearing next week, Wednesday, December 17.
