Philip Rivers was not necessarily the Indianapolis Colts ' first choice as a desperation quarterback.

Sam Ehlinger , who spent four years with the Colts after being a late-round draft choice in 2021, told the Denver Post that the Colts offered to sign him off the Broncos practice squad in the wake of Daniel Jones' Achilles injury.

“We’re really happy here and enjoy the organization, the path we’re on and what we’re building," Ehlinger said. "I want to be part of that.

“I was in Indianapolis for four years, and I love everybody over there. It’s just a difficult situation, obviously.”
