MANCHESTER, N.H. —

A storm that came through New Hampshire on Dec. 11, 2008, was not your typical winter storm.

A system brought widespread rain to New England and with temperatures below freezing, it left the landscape frozen solid.

This ice storm took down thousands of trees across New Hampshire, as some towns saw up to a full inch of ice accretion.

Typically, it takes a half-inch of ice accretion to cause severe tree damage.

The weight of the ice added 1,000 to 2,000 pounds per power line span.

Utility crews worked around the clock in the days following this storm in order to make repairs and get the power back on.

At the storm's peak, about 440,000 customers were left without power.
