Emporia State University is getting a new president.

On Dec. 11, the Kansas Board of Regents, in a special meeting at Emporia State, appointed Matthew Baker to be ESU's 19th university president.

"My wife Jill and I are deeply grateful for the warm welcome we have received, and we are excited to make Emporia our new home," Baker said. "We can't wait to become a part of this remarkable community and to join you in advancing the mission of this historic institution. This opportunity is meaningful for all of us, and I'm energized by the possibilities ahead."

This appointment comes after current university president Ken Hush announced his retirement in July. His last day is Dec. 17.
