ANDALUSIA, Ill. (KWQC) - Snowstar Ski Resort said it is opening three weeks earlier than normal due to early season snowfall.
The increased snowfall has allowed the resort to open Friday at 4 p.m. for skiing, snowboarding and tubing.
“We were able to turn these guns on about three weeks earlier than we have in the last three years that I can think of,” Rod Leatherman, Assistant General Manager said. “So earlier guns means more snow means an earlier start to our season.”
The snow guns use water and electricity to create artificial snow. Fans push the water through and get it high in the air, where cold temperatures turn it into snow.
Resort offers multiple winter activities
Snowstar features skiing and snowboarding on its ski hill, along with snow tubing, which is a family favorite.
