MARTIN COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - One Martin County man was taken to jail after police say he jumped into a river in an attempt to evade them.

The incident happened on Dec. 7, when police were patrolling the Lovely area of Martin County.

Police said they noticed Brett Waller, 61, of Lovely, walking around. They claim that he had a warrant out for his arrest. He had been charged with strangulation in a separate incident.

After police said they were taking him into custody, Waller told them that he was not going to jail and proceeded to run across the Kermit Bridge before jumping into the Tug River.
