It's gearing up to be an eventful election year in 2026, with a packed ballot now set for the March party primary elections and deadlines for Lubbock's municipal elections in May already on the horizon.

The filing period for the May 2 municipal elections - including the city of Lubbock's municipal races for mayor and city council - is just a month away, beginning on Jan. 14 and running through Feb. 13.

The May municipal election ballot for the city of Lubbock will feature races for a two-year term as mayor and four-year terms to serve on council for districts 1, 3 and 5. The municipal elections will also feature races for school board members as well as other city and town races across the area.

On Thursday, District 3 Councilman David Glasheen announced he would not seek reelection.
