Jewish communities throughout Michigan are preparing to celebrate Hanukkah, the festival of lights, which gets underway this weekend.
The eight-day Jewish festival honors a miracle amid the rededication of the Temple in Jerusalem, according to My Jewish Learning. Today, celebrations include menorah lightings, special prayers, games, traditional foods and more.
This year, Hanukkah takes place from sundown Sunday, Dec. 14, to sundown Monday, Dec. 22.
