The National Weather Service (NWS) Charleston station warns of a widespread hard freeze beginning Sunday night in the Lowcountry.

A hard freeze occurs when surface air temperatures drop to 28˚F or lower for an extended period of time, more severe than light freeze or frost, and can have significant consequences for people, plants and property.

After warmer temperatures on Saturday, a strong arctic cold front will cross the region on Sunday with a chance of precipitation and gale-force winds, according to the NWS Charleston Station's 11 a.m. briefing Dec. 11.

Temperatures for Savannah will likely fall as low as 26˚F from Sunday night to Monday morning, and down to 20˚F surrounding inland areas. From Monday night to Tuesday morning, expect just a slightly warmer 30˚F chill.
