The Department for Work and Pensions is handing out £440 tax free monthly payments for a common condition. It is a tax-free benefit paid every four weeks and is not affected by savings or income.

The DWP is paying £440 to more than half a million arthritis sufferers in the form of Attendance Allowance. AA is the most claimed-for health condition by those over the State Pension age.

This tax-free benefit, which isn't affected by savings or income, is paid every four weeks. As such, someone on the lower rate will pocket £295.60 per pay period, while those on the higher rate will get £441.40.
