LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Consumers Energy is opposing a legal challenge filed by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel that seeks to overturn newly approved safeguards for ratepayers as the state works to attract data centers and other energy-intensive businesses.
Nessel this week petitioned the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) for a rehearing of the commission’s Nov. 6 order, which established a set of customer protections and cost-recovery rules for large-scale energy users.
The MPSC’s order outlines how new data centers and large commercial customers must manage their energy consumption, requiring them to cover the full cost of their service and contribute to reducing cost pressures on residential and small-business customers.
