HIGHLANDS, N.C. —
Officials in Highlands, North Carolina, are asking people to avoid the downtown area due to a shooting threat.
When you go to the official website for the town, highlandsnc.org, a screen comes up that says "Shooting threat near Highlands Episcopal Church. Please avoid downtown until further notice."
The mayor of Highlands, Patrick Taylor, told WYFF News 4 that a man made a threatening call about the daycare at the church. The caller reported that he could see the daycare in his sight.
Taylor said someone then called and reported seeing a person matching the description of the person making the threat.
The search for the possible suspect is ongoing.
The children from the church daycare were taken to a local fire station in the area to be picked up.
