CHAGRIN FALLS, Ohio -- Don’t curse the darkness of our seasonally short daylight.
Instead, join the Geauga Park District and celebrate the longest night of the year -- the Winter Solstice -- from 7 to 10 p.m. Dec. 21 at The West Woods.
The Winter Solstice is when the sun appears to stand still in its southern journey in the sky for several days. During this time, ancient civilizations in the Northern Hemisphere lit huge bonfires at night for warmth and to light up the night sky to coax the sun to reverse course and head back north.
