A winter storm watch was issued by the National Weather Service on Thursday at 12:47 p.m. valid from Saturday 1 p.m. until Sunday 1 p.m. for Jefferson and Lewis counties.
The weather service adds, "Heavy lake effect snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 7 inches or more possible in the most persistent lake snows across and near the Tug Hill Plateau, with lesser amounts further north and east."
"Travel could be very difficult with snow covered roads and poor visibility," describes the weather service. "During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow with greatly reduced visibilities to dry conditions just a few miles away. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions."
