GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) — An online “Tom Petty Trail” is giving fans a way to explore places around Florida connected to the Gainesville native’s life and music.
From his childhood homes to performance venues to spots that inspired some of his lyrics, it’s all now mapped out for self-guided tours.
The Tom Petty Trail website lays out nearly 200 locations across Florida — many of them in Gainesville. Fans can scroll through photos, histories, and Google Maps pins for places connected to Petty’s childhood, his early bands, and his inspiration for some of his most iconic songs.
One longtime resident remembers watching the future rock star walk the halls of Gainesville High.
