HARDIN COUNTY, Ky. — BlueOval SK, the major partnership between Ford and SK Group to produce batteries for electric vehicles in the U.S., is no more.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that the two companies have agreed to split.
Ford will now take sole ownership of the joint partnership’s two battery plants built in Glendale, Kentucky. The Hardin County plant sold its first EV battery in August, with batteries from the plant powering the all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning.
A second completed plant next door has yet to begin production and is currently mothballed, meaning it's offline and standing by for possible reactivation.
SK On, the South Korean company’s battery unit, said it will assume control of the EV battery plant in Tennessee, according to the WSJ.
