AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) is taking feedback on its proposed permanent emergency rules to limit who can buy consumable hemp products that contain tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis.
In September, the TABC proposed the rules following an executive order from Gov. Abbott after lawmakers couldn't agree on banning or regulating such products.
Abbott's order directed state agencies to crack down on hemp-derived products and keep them out of the hands of minors. The governor vetoed a proposal to ban THC products outright but has pushed for tighter restrictions, particularly on sales to people under 21.
