Some brave souls are gearing up to take the plunge into a very cold Goose Lake in Anchorage.

The event marks the 17th annual Special Olympics Alaska Polar Plunge, set for 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 13. Volunteers were on site on Thursday to cut the plunge hole in preparation.

"Every dollar raised goes to Special Olympics Alaska and our athletes, and we can't thank the community enough for their support this year," said Sarah Arts, CEO of Special Olympics Alaska. "I would just say to all of our plungers and spectators to make sure they park at UAA North lot, that's where you catch the shuttle to come to the event. The first plunge starts at 10 a.m. and then we expect the last one to be done by 1 p.m."
