LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) - Seven months after a deadly tornado destroyed her home and wildlife center, Tonya Poindexter is rebuilding with help from her community.
“A miracle. It was like you know there’s a reason I think that I survived and these animals survived,” Poindexter said.
The tornado forced Poindexter to demolish her entire home and build it again from the ground up. The property looks significantly different now than it did when the storm hit in late May.
“I got a piece of paper and I drawed out kind of what I wanted the house to look like,” she said.
Rebuilding without insurance
Without homeowners insurance, Poindexter has done much of the work herself or relied on others, including her two daughters who have been installing insulation.
“We need drywall really bad,” she said.
