SUMTER, S.C. (WIS) - Veterans in Sumter were treated to food, fellowship, and creativity Thursday during a new event designed to honor their service through art.

The Sumter County Gallery of Art partnered with The Artists You Should Know to host the inaugural Veterans’ Art Brunch, offering free brunch and a hands-on art experience led by award-winning local artist Keith Tolen.

Veterans were invited to create original pieces while connecting in a relaxed, supportive environment.

“I served in the United States Army for 18 years,” said Army veteran Desi Terry, who was among those taking part in the event.

Air Force veteran Cheryl Moye said she was excited to see an art-centered event dedicated specifically to veterans. “I am an Air Force veteran. Aim High!” she said.
