Salisbury, N.Y. - A man was arrested Wednesday after troopers found a dead dog on a kitchen counter in a home in Herkimer County.
On Wednesday, Dillon G. Ortlieb, 27, of Herkimer was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
Troopers were first dispatched to the home on Mechanic Street in the town of Salisbury shortly after 9:15 p.m. Oct. 25 for a report of a domestic incident, according to a State Police news release.
Troopers found a deceased 3-year-old female Maltese Yorkshire Terrier named Mylah lying on a kitchen counter with blood coming from her mouth, said Trooper Jennifer Jiron, a spokesperson for state police.
The investigation into the dog’s death revealed that Ortlieb had been in a verbal argument with Mylah’s owner before the owner left the residence to cool
