SIOUX CITY (KTIV) - The Iowa DOT sent crews out on the roads throughout Northwest Iowa on Thursday, trying to keep up with the weather including in Sioux City.
In the metro, an Iowa DOT spokesperson said trucks are salting and using brine on Gordon Drive, Highway 75, Highway 20, Highway 12, and I-29, and will be out until conditions improve.
The video above shows the Gordon Drive area this afternoon as the icing was beginning to pick up.
Because of the busy start to our winter season, the Iowa DOT has had to bring in some seasonal temporary workers, who are working more hours to keep the roads safe to drive on.
The spokesperson says that Iowa DOT prepares months in advance for this kind of weather, but it’s been years since the conditions like this have come so early.
