In interviews, I’m often asked, given my role as Chair of the Treasury Select Committee, what I would do if I were chancellor of the exchequer. My answer is usually the same. I’m not the chancellor and I have no intention of doing anything other than what I have been doing for the last decade – holding governments accountable for their decisions.
