BEAUMONT, Texas — Beaumont Independent School District leaders publicly pushed back Thursday after the Texas Education Agency announced it will take over the district , with Superintendent Dr. Shannon Allen and school board members expressing disappointment during a press conference following the state’s decision.
The TEA confirmed it will assume control of Beaumont ISD after two campuses, ML King Middle School and Fehl-Price Elementary, received failing academic ratings for five consecutive years, meeting the legal threshold for state intervention. Beaumont ISD will become one of eight school districts currently under state control.
