MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - A 23-year-old Shelby County man is back behind bars after being mistakenly released from jail following a guilty plea to rape charges.
Cameron Brooks was accidentally freed Wednesday but was taken back into custody Thursday morning around 10 a.m., according to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office.
His mother said she was assaulted by law enforcement during his re-arrest.
Brooks is the second inmate in three months to be released accidentally from the Shelby County Jail.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Brooks appeared in court Tuesday when an aggravated rape charge was dismissed. However, he faced another rape charge and pleaded guilty to that charge.
