WATERLOO, Iowa — Roads in the Cedar Valley remain slushy on Thursday evening as crews work diligently to ensure safety.

The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) said all 26 trucks in the Waterloo/Cedar Falls area are deployed. They are working to apply brine to highways and will continue working until roads are clear.

“We will keep our trucks out until the snow stops, the entire length of snowfall event, and make sure roads are good and clear for traffic until we go back to the shop,” said Pete Hjelmstad, Field Services Coordinator, District 2, Iowa Department of Transportation.

Numerous DOT plows are also operating across Iowa highways to combat the snow. While snow is sticking to the roads in some areas, the city and DOT crews are keeping conditions manageable.
