A University of Toledo panel of health care experts appeared to mostly agree Thursday that with costs of health care and the uncertainty of its future on the rise, the best way forward is to focus on disease prevention.

“Prevention is cheaper than doing big repairs down the line,” said Charles Callahan, CEO of UToledo Health. “On the other hand, the system has been made to stop doing repairs.”

Mr. Callahan was one of four panelists who discussed ways to improve Ohio’s and Lucas County’s outcomes in health spending Thursday at the University of Toledo. At least 100 people attended the discussion, part of the Perspectives series sponsored by UT and The Blade.
