The West Virginia University women’s basketball team was back to coach Mark Kellogg’s preferred style Thursday night at Hope Coliseum.
The Mountaineers turned a 28-12 margin in turnovers into a 32-6 advantage in points off turnovers en route to an 82-50 blowout of Georgia Tech.
Though it led wire to wire, WVU got off to a bit of a slow start offensively, and it was on top by eight points, 27-19, at halftime. It shot just 27.8% from the field and made only one of its 10 3-point attempts in the opening 20 minutes.
The second half was an entirely different story, though, as the Mountaineers scored 55 points in the final two quarters, more than doubling their first-half output. They were blistering hot during the second half, making 60% of their field-goal tries, which included 8 of 18 (44.
