SPRINGPORT -- Strong defense in the first quarter helped the Springport girls basketball team build an early lead in Thursday’s nonconference game with Hillsdale, and the Spartans picked up a 57-36 win in the home opener.
The Spartans forced 27 turnovers and scored 27 points off turnovers in the win.
“Right now we’re really trying to focus on staying in front and not trying to go out and be too aggressive and to say, listen, if we stay in the right positioning, those deflections, those tips, those steals will come,” Springport coach Darren Hampton said. “Sometimes we try to force the issue a little too much, and I think tonight we really sat back and let that come to us.
