Syracuse, N.Y. ― The Syracuse Orange struggled offensively but managed to hold off the St. Joseph’s Hawks for a 71-63 win at the JMA Wireless Dome on Thursday night.
It had been nine days since Syracuse’s thrilling win over Tennessee, and the Orange looked like a team shaking off the rust and trying to find the same energy it displayed in the win over the then-No. 13 Vols.
A loss to St. Joseph’s would have squandered all the good feelings, not to mention the boost to SU’s NET rating, that came from the win over Tennessee.
St. Joseph’s brought a 6-3 record and a four-game win streak into Thursday’s game, but the Hawks’ record had been built in part with wins over Coppin State and Rutgers-Camden.
The win boosted Syracuse’s record to 6-3 on the season. The Orange will host Hofstra on Satu
