TRUCKEE, Calif. —

Unseasonably warm weather in Truckee is impacting local businesses, as minimal snowfall has led to fewer tourists during the holiday season.

Greg Zirbel, president of the Museum of Truckee History and a longtime resident, has witnessed the town’s colder winters firsthand.

“I've been here for more than one-third of the entire history of this town,” he said.

This year, however, looks very different. Zirbel said the week between Christmas and New Year’s is typically one of the busiest of the year for local shops, but this season, “People aren't rushing up here to go skiing.”

Instead, he said, “Now people are running in shorts,” citing how much warmer it is than usual.
