The Supreme Court on Friday heard a petition, which stated that 75% of India's population is in a high seismic zone. Therefore, authorities should be instructed to mitigate damage caused by earthquakes.
During this, the petitioner told the bench of Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Sandeep Mehta that earlier it was believed that only Delhi was in a high seismic zone.
The Court said, "If earthquakes occur, should everyone be sent to the moon? These are policy-related matters. The government has to take care of this. We cannot do that."
The petitioner also said that a major earthquake recently occurred in Japan. On this, the bench said, "First we will have to bring volcanoes to this country, then we can compare it with Japan." .
