Stephen Curry is close to returning for the Golden State Warriors after missing five games in a row.

Coach Steve Kerr offered another positive update Thursday, Dec. 11 on Curry's progress ahead of the Warriors' game against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday, Dec. 12, saying Curry was "on track" to return. Curry suffered a left quad contusion and muscle strain last month and did not travel with the team on their recent road trip.

But Curry is making progress and went through an entire practice on Wednesday, according to Kerr. His star could be back the next time the Warriors take the court. Golden State (13-12) has won three of its five games without Curry in the lineup.

Curry is expected to return Friday against the Timberwolves. On Thursday, Dec. 11, Golden State did not even list Curry on the injury report, signaling that he's not carrying any injury designation whatsoever into Friday. The Warriors will still likely monitor Curry's response to his pre-game workout, but, unless he suffers a significant setback, he's on track to play.

Curry had missed the Warriors' previous five games with the quad contusion.

Curry was officially diagnosed with a left quad contusion and muscle strain after suffering the injury in a Nov. 26 loss to the Houston Rockets. Kerr announced after a Dec. 2 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder that Curry would not travel with the team on its upcoming three-game road trip. The coach said Wednesday that Curry went through an entire workout with the team, including a scrimmage.

"Day-to-day, but it's looking good," Kerr told reporters when asked about Curry's status for Friday.

Curry is averaging 27.9 points, 4 assists and 3.7 rebounds, while shooting better than 39% from 3-point range during the 2025-26 NBA season.
