Southern football has entered a new era.
The Jaguars named Marshall Faulk their 22nd head coach, tasking the Pro Football Hall of Famer from New Orleans with rebuilding a team that finished 2-10 this season.
To understand whether Faulk’s appointment is a positive move by Southern, The Advocate spoke to three experienced media professionals who have covered HBCU sports.
When all three were asked broadly what they thought of Faulk’s hiring, they all wanted to withhold judgment in either direction. This is because of Faulk’s limited coaching experience.
A Super Bowl champion in 1999 with the then-St. Louis Rams had one coaching job previously, which was as the running backs coach for a 3-9 Colorado team this season under Deion Sanders.
