CONCRETE, Wash -- Right now, 12 Spokane and Spokane Valley firefighters are deployed to help with water rescue operations on the other side of the state. The Swiftwater Rescue Strike Team was requested earlier this week. During their first day of deployment on Thursday, the team spent the day in and around the Concrete community in Snohomish County. It is along the Skagit River and northeast of Seattle. According to Spokane Fire, the team used inflatable kayaks to search flooded neighborhoods and assist people in evacuating. They also helped the National Guard rescue a person whose vehicle had been swept off the roadway. The team will be back out on the water today; no word on when their deployment will end.
