TOWN OF CLIFTON, New York (WWNY) - State police say a St. Lawrence County man reported missing after a crash has been found dead.

Troopers were first called early Thursday morning after 41-year-old Matthew Adams of Oswegatchie never checked in following a crash on State Route 3 in the town of Clifton.

His pickup truck had hit a guide rail overnight on Wednesday, but when officers found the vehicle, Adams was nowhere to be seen.

State police, forest rangers, and members of the Cranberry Lake Fire Department searched the area near the crash site.

Searchers found a man’s body on a trail about a mile from where the truck was discovered.

The coroner confirmed the man was Matthew Adams and said there were no signs of foul play.

An autopsy will be done at Canton-Potsdam Hospital to determin
