CANTON, New York (WWNY) - SUNY Canton is a step closer to creating a campus daycare facility, a project years in the making.

“It will offer childcare opportunities to our facility, staff, and students as well as the community members,” said Lenore VanderZee, SUNY Canton vice president for communications and strategic relations.

$1 million in federal funding will help Canton build a 15,000-square-foot facility on campus and provide for 76 children, ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. Professors say childcare centers are vital for economic growth.
