A woman has shared her secret to living a long life as she celebrated her 104th birthday. Vera Jackson, who lives at Care UK’s Ventress Hall on Trinity Road in Darlington , celebrated her milestone birthday surrounded by family and friends.

To make the day special, Ventress Hall team members decorated the home with colourful balloons and banners, and surprised Vera with a cake thoughtfully prepared by the home chef. Born on Sunday, November 27, 1921, in Kibblesworth, Vera is the eldest out of eight children.

Throughout her life, Vera worked several jobs, including cleaning positions and a warden at the sheltered housing scheme at Pembroke Court in Darlington, until her retirement in 1986. She met her husband, Thomas
