A Welsh primary school went into lockdown after police responded to reports of a man walking nearby armed with knife.

Pillgwenlly Primary School in Newport initiated a lockdown procedure on Monday afternoon after it received a call at around 2.15pm from a member of the public who reported seeing a man carrying a knife in the nearby area. Gwent Police has confirmed that officers arrested a 36-year-old man on suspicion of possession of a bladed article in a public place and criminal damage.
